We actually didn't go to the seafood festival on Saturday (didn't want to see or be one of the drunken fools...imagine that), but instead biked around Kaikoura with Sharyn and Robyn. We saw the house that Robyn built and all of her ponies. We even helped corale them into a new pen!
The "caught me by surprise" bike picture. Not very flattering, but hey, we're bikers!
Robyn lives on a great piece of land that looks onto Mount Hutt. Plans are in the making to do a tramp up Mount Hutt over the summer! Could you imagine waking up to this every morning?
Jason enjoying life...as it should be!
After helping with the horses, we headed toward the local Irish pub...Donegal's house for a brewski...and to relax on the grounds and look at their white peacocks!
Low tide was around 17:30, so we headed to rocky intertidal zone that doubles as a study site and seal colony. Here, you may walk out onto the rocks and be within 10 m of fur seals ( Arctocephalus forsteri ). Actually, we were able to get REALLY close which is not really recommended when they are mating or if mature adults are around, but these were mostly pups.
